- The Department will initiate the application’s assessment. If everything is as per the requirement, it will forward the sample model to the Director of Legal Metrology Department for testing.
- The Director will assess the model to verify if it meets the LMA regulatory requirements.
- If the model meets the regulatory standards of the LMA, Model approval is issued to the manufacturer.
For an importer, the steps of obtaining model approval is far simpler:
- Furnishing the documents.
- Filing the online application to obtain the model approval
- Submitting the physical copies of the requisite documents to the LMA office located in the importer’s region.
- If everything is in order, the office issues model approval to the importer.
Note: Testing is not required for an importer because the model has already gone through testing and certification in the metrology department of its country of origin.
What are the documents required for model approval
Aspirants of Model Approval have to submit the following documents regardless of whether the aspirants are manufacturers or importers:
- Business entity certification
- Passport sized photo of the applicant
- Duly filled application form
- Schematic diagram of the product.
- Description of the sealing provision present on the product
- For importers, a declaration should be provided stating that no changes were made to the product prior to its import in India.
