I would like to share with everyone our private travel experience in Peru with all its highlights. You should try it one day!
In 2019 we made an unforgettable private tour to Peru. The overall trip was organized by a local travel agency that did a great job. They were with us from the beginning until our departure from Lima Airport. Our correspondent was regularly calling us during the trip to be sure everything was fine.
We arrived in Lima early in the morning and we were welcomed by our guide, a professional tour guide who did his best to make us discover the culture and history of his beautiful country. Always in good humor, he drove us in security throughout the trip. Great choice, many thanks to our agency for that.
It was an organized guided trip but we appreciated a lot the flexibility we had all the time. The itinerary was fixed in advance according to our preferences, however we made several stops on the way which were not planned. Our guide was always glad to take us off the beaten path. And we were free to organize our days as we wanted, always following his advice.
I’m glad to share with everyone also our itinerary day by day, as we think it’s an excellent choice of destinations and the correct order:
Our itinerary
Arrival to Lima (half day sightseeing of the capital was enough for us)
Departure from Lima to Arequipa, a beautiful colonial city (by internal flight)
Discovery of the colonial heritage of Arequipa and evening train to Puno (on board of Belmond Andean Explorer, a perfect choice for a luxury journey)
Exploring the Titicaca Lake and its islands with the overnight in train
Arrival to Cusco by train and guided tour in the historical center of the capital of the Incas
Cusco sightseeing, including the charming San Blas district and the archeological sites near Cusco (Tambomachay, Sacsayhuaman, Qenko and Puka Pukara)
Round trip to the amazing Machu Picc/hu, the lost city of the Incas (make a roundtrip in the luxury Hiram Bingham train, it’s a great experience!)
Return to Lima from Cusco (to finish the tour in Iquitos, unfortunately it was not possible to take the flight to Iquitos directly from Cusco…)

Return to Lima to take the flight back.
The 12 days we spent to discover all these marvels were perfect for us. Maybe the only thing we would like to experience as well could be the overnight stay in the hotel located just in front of Machu Picchu. It could be a nice conclusion for our luxury travel to Peru. Unfortunately, there was no availability at the time of our booking. Otherwise, the rest was incredible.
Our best luxury hotels
The things we appreciated a lot were also the exquisite properties our agency had booked for us. Our stays in Cusco and Arequipa were probably the best experiences. Despite many travelers were exploring the city, Cusco was however one of the main highlights during our trip in Peru.
And our hotel Belmond Palacio Nazarenas was a great choice the agency had made for us. Excellent location and faultless service. Our spacious room was just perfect and the local Spa treatments were at the top.
The overnight stay in Arequipa was another highlight and we appreciated a lot this colonial house of the 16th century transformed into a charming hotel.
Luxury train experience
Another great experience was the luxury Andean Explorer train. An incredible experience from Arequipa to Cusco with a stop in Puno. What a pleasure to admire the beauty of Titicaca Lake at sunrise. The train had all necessary amenities (private bathroom, Spa treatments etc.) and the suite sleeper cabin we had was perfect for a couple.
To finish our unforgettable experience we took the flight to Iquitos to explore the amazing Peruvian Amazon and its wildlife. It was the top highlight of our private luxury travel to Peru. It was a real pleasure to make a luxury cruise on board of Delfin Amazon Cruises with the private jacuzzi on board.
We enjoyed a lot the canopy walking tour, as well as the piranha fishing, a unique activity, something we have never tried before!
